Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.

Sometimes I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Workstation

  • 14” MacBook, M2, 16GB RAM (2022)

It's great. I love it. Nothing else to say.

Development tools

  • VS Code

Sometimes Zed when I’m feeling fancy, but mostly just VS Code.

  • Arc Browser

They're still ironing out bugs, and other browsers are starting to steal the ideas, but the pros outweigh the cons.

  • Freeform

For whiteboarding and component planning. Might not do as much as some paid tools, but it’s free and it works.

Productivity

  • Raycast

Even the free version is great. From launching apps, killing ports, or ejecting drives, it’s a huge timesaver.

  • Oh My Zsh

I don’t know how to use bash anymore. Though I probably don't know how to use zsh either. But at least my terminal looks good.

  • Automator

I don't use it very often, but when I do, it's a lifesaver.

  • Spotify

Atmospheric classical playlists all day long.

Photography

  • Sony a7r iii

Sometimes I still regret selling my Canon system & 5D Mark III, but it was far too bulky to take on the trail.

  • Sony 35mm f/2.8 Carl Zeiss

Super light for the trail. Decent image quality.

  • Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM

For all things real estate related. I wish it was more compact so I could take it on the trail.

  • Adobe Photoshop

The contrarian in me tried to switch to Affinity Photo, but I just couldn't stick with it.

Gadgets

  • Garmin Fenix 8

Charge it once every other week. I scoffed at the flashlight feature, but I use it literally every day.

  • Apple AirPods Pro

These things are in my ears pretty much all day long. It might actually be a problem.

  • Kindle

Most of the time I'm reading a physical book, but occasionally I'll resort to pirated ebooks. *&#@ Amazon.
